WASHINGTON (AP) – D.C. police are investigating why actor Charlie Sheen received a police escort on the way to his show in downtown Washington this week.

Police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said late Thursday that the police department’s internal affairs unit is investigating the incident, but she would not answer additional questions about it.

Sheen posted a photo on his Twitter account Tuesday night showing a police car with lights flashing as he was escorted at least part of the way from Dulles International Airport to his stage show, “Violent Torpedo of Truth: Defeat Is Not an Option.”

The former “Two and a Half Men” star was running nearly an hour late for the show after having spent the early part of his day in divorce court in Los Angeles for a custody hearing over the twin sons he shares with his estranged wife, Brooke Mueller.

LONDON (AP) – George Michael is giving the gift of song to Prince William and Kate Middleton – and anyone else who wants to download it.

The musician is making his cover of Stevie Wonder’s “You and I” available to download for free and hopes fans will make a donation to the Royal Wedding Charity Fund. Michael debuted the song Friday on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight.”

Michael said he spent about two days in the studio crafting the cover and that Wonder provided clearance to distribute the track for free.

“The idea came to me last week, about a week ago, that I should express my happiness at the marriage publicly,” Michael told Morgan.

Michael was a friend of William’s mother, the late Princess Diana, but he said he wasn’t expecting to attend the April 29 wedding. Read full article…

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) – Some students at New Jersey’s largest university believe Bruce Springsteen is their salvation.

They have started a Facebook campaign called “Let’s Bring the Boss to Rutgers!” to counteract fallout from a recent appearance by Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi.

The Rutgers University Programming Association paid the “Jersey Shore” reality TV star $32,000 to answer questions. That’s $2,000 more than Rutgers will pay Nobel-winning novelist Toni Morrison to deliver the commencement address.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Wendy Williams is saying goodbye to the “Dancing With the Stars” ballroom – and to the cross-country treks she made as she juggled taping her daily talk show in New York and performing on the dance show in Los Angeles.

The TV host was dismissed Tuesday from “Dancing With the Stars” after coming into the episode in last place. She earned 15 points out of 30 the previous night for her foxtrot with professional partner Tony Dovolani.

Williams said being on the show was “a wonderful opportunity” and she thanked the judges and her partner for teaching her how to dance.

“Despite stereotypes, this is one black girl who can’t even do the running man,” Williams said.

She struggled throughout her three weeks on the show, regularly landing near the bottom of the leaderboard. Read full article…
