I’ve been in Atlanta almost all of my life and have heard many things about some of our urban street legends.  I’ve seen quite a few, but never knew they had names.. until now.

One in particular was brought to my attention last weekend as I was chillin’ with friends after a night out on the town. They talked me into hitting up The Majestic on Ponce (a place I’ve passed by a gazillion times but never cared enough to enter)… but I digress.

A friend brought up a man she called “Mr. Potato D*ck”:

“Girl… you mean you’ve NEVER seen Mr. Potato D*ck? He’s that guy who walks up and down Ponce with a cane, wearing tight biker shorts and his thingy is waaaaaay down to his knees.

How could you miss all THAT?”

Clearly I’ve been missing out! I was immediately intrigued but being that I was the only one at the table who hadn’t had a drink that night, I just assumed my friend was joking.

That is… until I grabbed my trusty iPhone and began to Google.

Little did I know that “Mr. Potato D*ck” aka “The Spandex Dude” was truly one of Atlanta’s many urban legends!

Meet Mr. Potato D*ck…

Willy Terry aka “Mr. Potato Dick” aka “Big D” aka “The Spandex Dude”

No one knows for sure exactly what the deal is with Willy Terry’s huge ummmm… member. Many have speculated that it’s a birth defect, while others say he had some sort of injury “down under”.

In a Willy Terry discussion board on facebook, one poster revealed a theory from a medical perspective…

My sister-in-law, who did her residency at Emory, says that it’s actually an inguinal hernia and he wears the spandex to keep his insides from falling out. (Or something.) I, however, refuse to believe it. This is far too pedestrian a story for a man who, despite his walking cane, is no ordinary pedestrian.

The story of Mr. Potato has been told for years around town and has even been documented on video! Yeah… you have GOTS to take a gander at this one.
