The internet was all a buzz last week with rumors of Kanye West launching a womenswear label during this year’s Fall New York Fashion Week. Now comes a somewhat ‘confirmation’ from Central Saint Martins professor Louise Wilson, who’s the director of the MA in fashion course at the British fashion school.
She tells UK newspaper The Guardian:
“I can confirm that Kanye has been to visit me twice at Saint Martins and we have briefly discussed this collaboration.”
This reportedly won’t be a solo effort by Kanye. The label will be a collaboration between the rapper and British fashion designer Louise Goldin, who might be familiar to some of you as the designer of this dress Rihanna wore to a Las Vegas New Year’s Eve party.
And for those of you who expect this to be just another celebrity label where the celeb gets all the press, while an actual designer does all the work, Professor Wilson disagrees. She goes on to tell the newspaper:
“I think we can expect a well-considered collection, you wouldn’t expect less from a pair of professionals and I warn against dismissing it in haste. There are those who might assume Louise will be doing all the work and Kanye is just the face, I don’t believe this will be the case – he researches thoroughly and is hands on and committed to his work.”
Can’t wait to see if this all proves to be true. If so, it wouldn’t be Ye’s first foray into fashion. In addition to designing kicks for Louis Vuitton, he also launched label Pastelle a few years back, but it never quite got off the ground.
