After bursting onto the fashion scene and taking over the red carpet during her Star Trek and Avatar promo days, Zoe Saldana has led a relatively quiet red carpet life, showing up here and there at low key events (MET Gala notwithstanding). She took some time off to film Columbiana, and with the movie’s release set for August 26, and filming rumored to soon begin on Star Trek 2, Zoe’s hitting the scene again.

The actress reminded everyone why owns when it comes to fashion, making her red carpet comeback at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.

Zoe made her first red carpet turn at the Tree of Life premiere, wearing a red and white striped Armani Privé gown and Nicholas Kirkwood heels. On almost any other Hollywood starlet, this dress would overwhelm, both literally and figuratively. The bold striped pattern brings up thoughts of Christmas candy canes, but Zoe has the perfect amount of presence to make naysayers take her and her gown seriously. Ladies, this is how you wear a questionable item, and sell it with attitude.

Later in the evening, Zoe hit up the red carpet again at the Tree of Life Cannes Film Festival party, wearing modified Vionnet Fall 2011. Showing no signs of wear or jet lag, she glowed in a floral print silk organza gown, pulled up hair, and a burgundy lip. She finished her look with a black, pink, orange, and white striped belt.

Hopefully, Zoe at Cannes is a sign she’s making a full return to the forefront of celebrity fashion.
